If I’ve never met you before, what do I have to know about you?

Mr. David Walsh: “I guess I would start out by saying I’m a very simple person. I don’t seem to have that gene that makes me want to travel or see different places. It’s not because I’m not interested in these things, but I think most of my joy comes from one [thing], just being outdoors; nature is really incredible all by itself. The way I look at it, wherever I travel, nature’s pretty much going to be same. Now, I might be surprised depending on where I travel, but anyway. That said, family has also always been pretty important to me. It really brings me a great deal of joy. But I’d have to say, there’s nothing like having your own child. And I’ll just leave it at that. Because, someday, you readers will get to experience that, I hope. But in the past three or four years, I’ve been blessed with grandkids. And I’ve heard people say there’s nothing like having grandchildren, and you didn’t really know how to react to that because you didn’t have a grandchild. But I’ve got to tell you, everything about those two little boys makes the worst days the greatest, makes me rethink everything I know about education because I watch how they learn, makes me find joy again in the simplest things. I think that sometimes we think we need to do something fancy to be happy. So I guess if you asked me, ‘What’s a perfect weekend?’ I’d be outdoors, I’d be with my family, I’d be chasing my grandkids.”
