A new school year has started, bringing new places and new faces to share in the Husky Upper School community! While we are almost four weeks into the 2025-2026 school year, many new faculty members already feel like they’ve been here for years – both literally and figuratively.
New in our English department, we have two new hires within our upper school community: Upper School English Teachers Mrs. Joan Kade and Ms. Alesha Telvick, who join us with both wonderful experiences outside and inside Flint Hill. Last year, we welcomed Ms. Telvick as a long-term substitute for English I, and fortunately, we were able to have her join full-time, teaching Freshman students again! Along with Ms. Telvick, we welcomed Mrs. Kade, who has taught for the last 10+ years in our Middle School. When interviewing with Senior, Jennifer Kim, who had Mrs. Kade in her 8th grade, she stated, “I couldn’t have felt more prepared for English I Honors my freshman year.” We are incredibly grateful to have her join our upper school community and know that she will continue to make immense contributions to our Upper School Huskies.
In our Math department, we celebrate four new faculty members who bring new experiences to our community. Firstly, we have two new geometry teachers who bring more than 40 years of experience working with academic institutions both inside and outside the United States. Upper School Math Teacher Dr. Giovanna Basney not only has experience in mathematics but also has coached cross country for the past 10 years and holds a B.S. in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture. Piecing our Geo-Husky logo together, Ms. Beidas also teaches geometry and holds a love for running, noting that she ran the Marine Corps 10K for six years. Alongside math, she holds a B.S. in Computer Science! Alongside Geometry, we welcome Upper School Math Teacher Mr. Liam Kean, coming from Florida and Boston. Mr. Kean has taught both AP Statistics and Economics and is incredibly passionate about his students’ success in subject areas that require more rigorous study. I interviewed Mr. Kean, and one thing that has become incredibly apparent to him is “how welcoming [his] students have been, from giving restaurant recommendations in the area to sharing favorite museums in DC.” Mr. Kean is truly a supportive Husky, spotted at many weekend football and volleyball games over the past month, coming out to support his student-athletes! Last, but certainly not least, Ms. Genevieve Guibord brings an incredible experience of working as an AmeriCorps tutor before switching to a full-time teaching position. She has been teaching mathematics for the past four years and holds a B.S. in Biology alongside math!
Our Arts department couldn’t be more budding than by welcoming two new teachers this school year! From muralist to teacher, Upper School Fine Arts Teacher Ms. Emely Ramos joins our Husky community after becoming a long-term substitute last year! Inspired, I was fortunate enough to take a look at her murals, which she shared that she hand-draws throughout the DMV, using the design app Procreate to bring her ideas to life. After this year, rest assured, her students will be pros in Procreate! In the theater realm, we welcome Upper and Middle School Theater Teacher Ms. Abigail Rozmajzl, who has worked with students from ages 5 to 22. One fun fact about her was that she would go horseback riding across the Sahara Desert when living in Egypt.
While these are just some of the new, interesting introductions in the Flint Hill Upper School this year, we are thrilled to welcome so many new faces to these halls. As a community, we are so excited to work and learn with them this coming year!
