The music at school dances can make or break the night, and in the past, Flint Hill has faced some criticism. Last year, students expressed concerns about a lack of smooth transitions, playing too much or too little of songs, and a limited ability to request music in the moment. Thankfully, the SCA has listened and is trying something new for this year’s Homecoming: hiring a student DJ.
Why a student DJ?
Hiring a student DJ offers several unique benefits. For example, they have a more intimate understanding of the school’s music scene. They know what’s currently trending in the hallways and what songs students are looking forward to. This leads to a more personalized playlist compared to a professional who might rely on generic hits. Additionally, hiring a student DJ is more affordable than hiring a professional, allowing Flint Hill to allocate their budget towards other parts of the event.
What if I want to apply?
- Fill out the interest form: the SCA posted an announcement on September 15th with a link to an interest form asking simple questions about DJ equipment and experience. Once you fill out the form, you’ll receive more information about the process via email.
- Prepare for your audition: Starting September 23rd, an audition process where applicants bring in a sample for the US Dean of Student Life and Community, Ms. Joelle Tam, Associate Director of College Advising and Freshman Class Dean, Mr. Andrew Kane, Karan Chugh (‘26), and Stella Randall (‘26).
- Know the essentials: The panel will go over important details including the event schedule, music genres, and any songs that are off-limits, so applicants fully understand their responsibilities.
The deadline to apply is this Friday, so if you’re interested, be sure to fill out the interest form and reach out to the SCA!
