Beginning this school year, the commons in the Upper School have been improved with new furniture, including chairs, tables, and couches. The old chairs have been replaced by new white rolling chairs at each table. Booths have been added on both ends of the commons. The tables have been changed to small circular-shaped tables and long rectangular tables. Additionally, new couches have been arranged in the commons alongside the normal assortment. These new additions to the commons have been in planning since last school year and were installed before school began on Monday, August 25. These additions were an effort to improve the student experience in the commons and to improve productivity.
We went around asking some of our peers what they thought of the new improvements around the commons. There was an extremely positive response from the students, a few are quoted below:
“When I first walked into the school for the leadership conference, I was excited to sit in the new furniture. It looks modern, sleek, and it embraces the Flint Hill theme,” said Zachary Dorchinsky, 10th grade. Zachary agrees that the new furniture introduces seamlessly into the school, fitting with the Flint Hill aesthetic. The new furniture had and still has students excited to use it every day.
“It feels modern and futuristic, functional and fashionable,” said Jahan Humenik, 12th grade. Jahan benefits from the functionality of our new furniture and would encourage more similar improvements around the school that favor a modern yet practical use.
“Furniture is great, comfortable to do work, the outlets in the table are really convenient and make it more accessible for people working,” said Sherwin Aflaki, 10th grade. Sherwin, along with other students, love the fact the new furniture allows them to be more productive and is better suited for working with other people. Sherwin put a lot of emphasis on how great the outlets are and how they allow him to get more work done without moving to a different area.
The new furniture additions around the school have been a huge success with the students who actively use them every day. Not only is the new layout more comfortable, but the addition of amenities like the new outlets in the tables also helps students further embrace the furniture and allows them to be more productive in their everyday school lives.
