Homecoming has come and gone once again, and the Huskies had a special appearance at the dance this year. From upbeat pop music, with hits like Charli XCX’s album BRAT, to a plethora of slower songs, the new DJ position became all the rage, with the seniors gathering around Senior Jack Ballinghoff, our 2025 Homecoming DJ.
In previous years, Huskies have pushed for transitioning from outsourcing the DJ to selecting one internally. This year marked that change, and our Student Council Association (SCA) saw a significant increase in DJ applications as each prospective DJ auditioned and demonstrated their talents. When speaking with Senior Class President Stella Randall, she shared, “There were four contestants who tried out… ultimately, Jack was selected, given his high level of interest.” When asked about the application process, she explained that the DJ position was open to anyone passionate about creating playlists, music, and, presumably, DJing.
As the music industry continues to take off and new genres overlap, there will always be a strong passion among music lovers. This was clearly evident for Ballinghoff, our 2025 DJ, as I personally observed his passion for music and DJing when he cupped his earphones and moved to the rhythm of the song. Behind him, many Seniors stood cheering him on and recommending the next big hit.
Ultimately, it was cool to see the value of this change, and our SCA did an awesome job bridging the gap between the administration and student input. I know this role will remain a “hot commodity” for years to come, offering a platform for aspiring DJs and playlist innovators to showcase their talents in a space buzzing with energy and excitement!
