At Flint Hill, we work year-round in different extracurricular activities and organizations that come together to form our community. During Homecoming, we celebrate this passion and diversity all week long—from the annual bonfire to the senior-junior flag football game—a special excitement fills the air on Jermantown Road. Each Fall sport has a homecoming game, in which its fans show their support more than at other times of the year. At the Varsity Girls Soccer game, there wasn’t just spirit in the student stands, but also in the crowds of parents, staff, and lower and middle-schoolers enjoying the game before the complimentary hot cocoa and Friday festivities.
The arts department delivered strong performances, including a rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by Major Minors member Audrey Hines, ‘27. Then, at Halftime, the dance team performed with members of the lower school who participated in the annual dance clinic, a dance workshop with some of our youngest and oldest Huskies. Senior Brooke Crickenberger ’26 looked back on the performance, stating, “The dance was upbeat and thrilling, making me feel more excited for the weekend’s events. I can’t imagine the excitement the lower schoolers felt performing!” The dance team led two clinics, met up for the homecoming performance, and showed a promising future for Flint Hill dance.
The school rented lights, which allowed students to extend sports games later into the night throughout the week. Varsity soccer member and Captain Julia Murphy ‘26 told me, “It was really cool playing with a crowd and lights, and I’m glad Flint Hill gives us a chance to experience the events we would have as athletes at bigger schools.” Julia shared comments on the brutal fight and eventual 3-1 win against Washington Latin. Members of the team were already facing injuries, and Julia had a hard fall, resulting in a knee and hamstring injury. Despite the adversity, the girls came together and fought hard against the Lions.
There’s no better way to start the Homecoming weekend than a victory, and we hope Huskies had a fun, safe, and active weekend surrounded by their favorite members of the Tundra. Make sure to continue the momentum of school spirit that Homecoming Weekend created by attending sporting events and finishing the fall season strong. If you missed the Varsity Girls Homecoming game, try to stop by the Peterson Family Field on October 20 while the team plays Bullis for their Senior Night. Good Luck to all the athletes participating in fall sports, and way to go, Huskies!
