The Flint Hill Huskies had their annual homecoming game, facing the Bullis Bulldogs on Friday, October 3rd, with the Bulldogs winning by 34-3. For the Huskies community, it was a fun one, as the dress theme was blackout. The student section was filled with a sea of black that represented the Husky nation. This game was heavily anticipated, given the Bulldogs’ winning record.
The game started fast, with the Bullis Bulldogs starting with the ball. The Bulldogs scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a reception by wide receiver Connor Salmin. Later in the quarter, he helped set up another touchdown on a 30-yard reception, allowing Bullis to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter. Flint Hill would score a field goal on its next drive after a scramble by quarterback Alexander Mahmood. However, Salmin would score his third touchdown of the half, returning the kickoff 75 yards. This gave Bullis a 21-3 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Flint Hill got some big plays of its own. Wide receiver Ty Harris had a 60-yard reception. Mahmood also had a 25-yard scramble. Unfortunately, neither of these plays resulted in points. Bullis would score two more touchdowns to win the game 34-3. Although Flint Hill had big plays throughout the game, they were unable to score a touchdown or make many stops on defense.
There were some key players during the game as well. There were Flint Hill athletes who really showed out despite the loss. Ty Harris had a strong performance, hauling in eight receptions for 108 yards. Paris Borden had 27 yards, and David-Parkes Johnson had 17 yards. On the flip side of things, Bullis’s quarterback had a big game passing the ball. He also helped set up multiple touchdowns. Additionally, their wide receiver, Connor Salmin, had three total touchdowns during the game. These key performances, and those from others, ultimately led to Bullis’ win.
The student section in Flint Hill is a great way to bond with our fellow Huskies; recently, students have been attending more games this school year.
On October 17th, the Huskies will take on their rival, the Potomac Panthers. The Panthers, like the Huskies, have had a difficult season, falling to various opponents. Around the community, there is optimism that the Huskies can grab their first win of the season.
Despite the past struggles, the Huskies are determined to secure a win and prove their potential. With this optimism, we look forward to a thrilling match on October 17th.
