Flint Hill Varsity Baseball’s Outstanding Season

Categories:

The Huskies of Flint Hill Varsity Baseball, led by head coach Mitch Mendler, have gotten off to a hot start on the field. With only two games left in the regular season, the Huskies have an impressive record of 19-5. The team chemistry is remarkable this year, which has aided Flint Hill this successful season. After not being ranked in the state in the 2024 season, Flint Hill’s baseball team persevered and is currently #6 in the VISAA Division 1 state polls, as of April 21, 2025. The Huskies are a strong contender for the MAC playoffs, ranked #1 overall. Junior Outfielder Logan Lucca credits this year’s success to the unmatched team chemistry in the dugout: “Every game we play, we are the loudest, most energetic team. Our success is a combination of our chemistry off the field and talent on the field.” This proves that chemistry away from the dirt is just as important as practicing and makes a vital difference, as shown by their outstanding record.

The Huskies have significantly improved from last season’s final record of 11-13. Last year’s performance caused Flint Hill to be undervalued at the beginning of the season. Junior Pitcher Michael Morgan speaks on their growth and success, saying: “We’re an overlooked, scrappy team with good chemistry that wins. We have been able to have this success because of our ability to handle adversity.” Morgan, an important part of their pitching staff, had to handle adversity himself after suffering an injury and not being able to compete against Flint Hill’s rival, the Potomac School. After a history of losses to Potomac, Flint Hill was able to beat the Panthers by a substantial margin, winning by a score of 14-5. Not only did they beat Potomac’s impressive team, but they also had impressive wins against Paul VI, ranked #2 in the state, and the Collegiate School, ranked #8 in the state.

We hope the Huskies can continue their hot streak as they wrap up their regular season this week against the Highland School on April 29th and Benedictine College Prep on May 3rd.
