The Banes and Boons of Early Decision Day

Categories:

Early Decision Day, December 15th, is one of the most important dates to remember when embarking on the college search. While some students hold out for the regular decision round, many apply early to a college of their choice. Applying early decision to a college is a big deal and a choice that should not be taken lightly considering if accepted to the school, it is a binding agreement guaranteeing the student proceeds to study at that institution. Many view applying to a college early decision as giving them a boost on their application as colleges would be more inclined to accept students they know will be coming to their school.
After speaking to some of our very own seniors, it is clear that Early Decision Day is a stressful time of year for everyone. Senior Shanyar Ghaderi comments, “It’s a weird feeling having to wait and not knowing if you’re finally free from the college search or if you’re going to have to wait even longer to know where you’re going.” This feeling is common for many seniors. The uncertainty of waiting for a response can be painful, but for some, it ultimately ends in success.
Another Flint Hill Senior, Hunter Pfromer, committed early to Wake Forest (congratulations Hunter!). Pfromer comments, “I am really glad I applied early and got a lot done over the summer in preparation for application season. It took a ton of weight off my senior year workload. Now that I know where I’m going, I’m able to spend more time meeting my peers next year!”
Ultimately, the benefits of applying early to a college are overwhelming, but even if an early decision application doesn’t go to plan, there is still the regular decision round to work toward! Applying to college can be a stressful time, and Early Decision Day is no exception, but in the end, it is important to remember that wherever you end up will be a new and fun opportunity to learn and grow! Keep pushing seniors, you got this!
