On April 23, students gathered in the upper school gym to participate in our yearly student leadership elections. Every year, school and grade level elections are held where the students running present a speech to either the whole school or their respective grade. These students are selected from among many applicants, and each aims to fill a role on the Student Council Association during the following school year.
There were three SCA officer positions voted on by the whole student body: SCA President, SCA Vice President, and SCA Secretary. All of the students who ran had wonderful speeches, but in the end, only one person can fulfill each of these roles. Bensten Schone, ’27 was elected to be next year’s SCA President. The student who will be just below him on the chain of command, next year’s SCA Vice President, will be Billy Lytton from the class of 2028. In addition, Zeke Liu from the class of 2029 was elected to be the SCA Secretary.
A second election was held for the grade level representatives. Each speech was compelling and thoughtful, and Aashna Shah was elected as the class of 2027 Senior Class President. Similarly, those select individuals voted on to represent their grade were also selected. For the class of 2027, Representatives Nehru Mooganur, Zoe Simons, Aarav Shah, and Alec Sweet were elected. Additionally, Zachary Dorchinsky, Taylor Oakes, Clint Sancho, Yashvi Vataliya, and Kivaan Vora were elected to the Class of 2028 Representatives position. Lastly, the class of 2029 Representatives Xander Balkissoon, Morgan Kim, Isabella Mitchell, Raina Shah, and Vinn Williams were elected.
Many students offered their thoughts on the new members of the SCA.
Bryce Liebert said, “I love the new SCA officers. I put a lot of faith into who I voted for, and I hope to see improvements for the student body.”
Tommy Wonnacot’28 stated, “I hope the new members bring much-needed attention to what the students themselves want this year. I am very excited for the future of our school.”
Everyone who put themselves and their ideas out there for the school to see did an amazing job. While not everyone who runs can make it, the experience gained is worthwhile.
Congratulations to the students who were elected as SCA Officers and SCA grade level representatives. We can’t wait to see how this new group of leadership will guide us in the upcoming school year.
