The Flint Hill Community was filled with excitement and anticipation as we headed into the New Year. Especially because of the long winter break that preceded it. Coming back to Flint Hill in the new year is a chance to reset and reflect on the new choices and opportunities ahead. It is always fun to look back on what our very own Huskies did on their break and how they celebrated the new year.
Emma Mehrkam ’28 said she enjoyed spending time with her family and calling friends to count down the new year with them. As she also spent some hours in video games like Honkai Star Rail and Minecraft with friends. Emma stated, “During the new year, I spent time immersed in Honkai Star Rail and called friends to count down into the new year with them.”
Sophia Wang ‘28 “ [I] watched the ball drop, called relatives in China beforehand so we could celebrate the New Year together as it was already the New Year in China at the time.” She also comments that “ I played a few video games with some friends and celebrated the new year with them over call.”
When asking Lauren Bui’ 28 about her New Year’s traditions. She said she spent quality time with her family and friends while watching the ball drop on TV to count down to the new year, as they do not have “special” traditions. However, she added that, usually, on New Year’s Eve, she and her brother build Legos together. Lauren commented, “I spent time with my family and watched the ball drop as we do every year… usually my brothers and I build Legos on New Year’s Eve.”
Traditions shared with family and friends are always the ones we will hold close to our hearts, and these are just some of the examples of how your fellow Huskies celebrated the new year! Head into the new year with vigour and determination, and make a point of bettering yourself in your studies and beyond the classroom, welcoming 2026 with open arms. Happy New Year Huskies!
