The Choir Program had its most anticipated event last Wednesday, performing at George Mason University for the Arts Performance Program’s collective show, Arts Jam. The choir program year was building up for this event, and there was a lot of pressure going into it. Sophomore Gavin Pformer, who’s in the Concert Choir, spoke on the pressure going into the performance.

“There was some nervousness about songs like “Alice,””Vienna,” and “The Who Medley” due to having to adapt on the spot for other ensembles.”

During the performance, the Concert Choir played “Vienna,” “Million Reasons,” “The Who Medley,” “Alice,” and multiple songs from The Great Gatsby. Leading up to the big day, there was a lot of preparation every day to make sure everyone was on the same page.

The preparation was already in full swing by spring break, with the performers having to prepare costumes for the show. Pformer talked about what practice looked like leading up to their biggest event of the year.

“Leading up to the performance, we practiced in class a lot every time we had choir, and we did a couple of practice runs of the songs as a class.”

Even on the day of the performance, the preparation leading up to their stage time was rigorous. Whether it was mic checks for solos, run-throughs of the songs, knowing what cues of when to leave the stage, the choir group made sure they did the little things right to showcase their hard work in the best display possible.

Against all of their challenges they faced going into the performance, Pformer says he feels the group overcame the pressure and did well.

“We felt we did good as a group and that we barely messed up.”

Arts Jam was the choir program’s biggest performance of the year, and they certainly delivered a breathtaking show and display of their talent. Overall, Arts Jam was a way to display the great talent we have at Flint Hill in the performing arts space.
