This past Friday, the Huskies had their annual Tip-Off Tournament, beating Ballou 76-45. This tournament is one of the most important events of the Flint Hill school year and a longstanding tradition. What makes this tournament special, in addition to marking the first home games, is that students throw toilet paper onto the court after the first points are scored. This tradition has lasted for many years and is one of the most memorable moments of each Tip-Off basketball game. This tradition reflects Flint Hill’s strong school spirit and unity, both in sports and across the school.
On December 5th, Flint Hill played Ballou. Aside from the annual toilet paper tradition, the game was a decisive victory for Flint Hill. The starters of this game were Ty Harris, Dylan Fletcher, Amir Payne, Braylon Robinson, and Justin Castleberry. Flint Hill got off to a hot start in the first quarter, with both the offensive and defensive games being extremely sharp. At the beginning of the game, Ty Harris had a series of dunks that excited the crowd. Flint Hill played full-flowing basketball with a fast-paced performance. The Huskies completely dominated the scoring, making it seem like Ballou didn’t have a chance back in the game. There was even a point in the first quarter where Ballou couldn’t get past their own half. The first quarter ended with a score of 27-2, reflecting an excellent early showing by Flint Hill.
In the second quarter, the Huskies continued to dominate, playing with just as much energy as in the first quarter. Players were starting to be rotated, but most starters were still getting consistent minutes to maintain control of the game. The lead remained consistently by 20 or more points, with the Huskies’ defense extremely solid. By the end of the first half, many players delivered strong performances, and the Huskies maintained a comfortable lead.
In the second half, the Huskies maintained their intensity but faced slightly more pressure from Ballou. Although the final score reflected a big win, Ballou clearly improved offensively as the second half progressed. They were putting slightly more effort into trying to get something out of the game, but the Huskies didn’t let that pressure get to them. They continued to dictate the game and played at a similar offensive and defensive quality as the first half. The final score was a decisive 76-45 victory to start the Tip-Off Tournament. This win improved the Huskies’ record to 2-0.
Overall, the Tip-Off Tournament is a great indicator of school spirit and shows how students can come together as a community to preserve tradition and support Husky athletics. The Huskies’ promising win over Ballou in the first game of the Tip-Off Tournament shows the team’s exciting future.
