Winter break is always a time to enjoy with family and take a well-deserved break from the stressful end of the first semester. This winter break, like many, was filled with lots of different, fun experiences among Flint Hill students. Our Huskies went on vacation, relaxed at home with families, celebrated the festive season, or even had some lingering stress as seniors.
Winter break is a time for families to spend quality time with each other. Some decide to do this by going on vacation. Many of our Huskies did so, with many different fun experiences along the way. First, I visited Cancun with my family and visited architectural ruins like Coba. Similarly, Alex Balba ‘26 went to Cancun to get away from the cold weather in Virginia and spend a relaxing time on the beach.
Florida is also a popular spot for Winter Break, as it’s a way to escape the Virginia climate while traveling a reasonable distance. Aaron Hjalmervik ‘26 went down to Florida to visit his grandparents and spend time and celebrate the holiday season with his extended family. Additionally, Junior Giovanni Eastman spent time in Florida for a week, visiting Orlando, Miami, and Coral Gables. Some Huskies also visited different places to spend time with family they might not see often. For example, Arjun Nayyar ‘27 went to South Carolina to visit his aunt and played golf at Kiawah Island. Additionally, Jaiden Bhargava ‘28 went to India to visit extended family and saw the great Taj Mahal.
Although vacation is a major part of many people’s winter breaks, many preferred to stay at home and take a relaxing break from an intense end to the first semester. Andrew Schaub ‘26 stayed at home and watched a lot of movies with his family while celebrating the holiday season. Similarly, Lauren Freireich ‘26 spent time with her family and spent a lot of her time relaxing. Although relaxation was an important part of many people’s breaks, some (like myself) had to catch up on finishing college applications to meet the early January college application deadline. For the first week of winter break, I had to write many supplemental essays to submit on time. Mayank Yerragondu ‘26 shared a similar experience in which he found some stress being in crunch time to complete applications, but still enjoyed the whole second week of break after doing so.
Winter break is a time to take a break from school, and most importantly, spend quality time with families to celebrate the holiday season. It’s safe to say that many Huskies had an amazing and memorable winter break!
